The VorCone meter measures the fluid density as well as the mass flow. VorCone meters were installed on a oil truck’s loading and unloading line (see Figures 1 and 2). As the oil is of varying grade / density it was important to be able to meter the mass flow and fluid density. The oil truck is an extremely adverse metering environment with short meter runs, severe meter vibration during off road transit, intermittent flows, and varying fluid densities.
Figure 1. Truck with Two 4” VorCone Meters Installed.
These meters have been used in multiple oil transfers. The data is recorded in batches and summed to a total quantity. Figure 3 shows the individual batch results with the stated storage tank reference uncertainty of 0.5% error bars. Although the adverse conditions cause significant scatter per individual batch the overall summed result of the total oil quantity was < 1% uncertainty.
Figure 2. Two Oil Truck Mounted 4” VorCone Meters.
Figure 3. Truck 4” VorCone Meter Performances Compared to Facility Reference.
Table 1 shows the facility volume reference vs. the meters loading & unloading totalized values. The volume difference between the facility references and the loading and unloading meters are -0.19% and -0.09% respectively. No zeroing / re-calibration was required in the field.
Reference BBLs | Meter Under Test BBLs | % Difference of Total | |
---|---|---|---|
Meter 1 Loading | 4488.8 | 4480.4 | -0.19 |
Meter 2 Unloading | 4488.8 | 4484.6 | -0.09 |
